    GLIMPS

    Overview

    What is GLIMPS

GLIMPS is an open-source developer tool that makes terminal output readable without asking you to change how you work. Rather than hooking into the shell — which can only run before or after a command, never during — it runs your shell inside a pseudo-terminal it owns, so it sees every byte of every command as it streams. It locates the boundary between the prompt, your typed input and the actual command output using OSC-133 shell-integration markers, then reformats only what it confidently recognises: JSON, HTML, logs, HTTP responses, diffs, SQL, CSV, dotenv and stack traces. Each command closes with a status line carrying its exit code, duration, and the error line that actually mattered — pinned back into view when it has scrolled away. Safety is the design constraint: it defaults to pass-through whenever content is uncertain, never touches binary output, existing ANSI escapes, password prompts or interactive programs like vim, ssh and htop, never logs or transmits a single byte of your terminal, and switches off entirely with GLIMPS=0.
